Seminario SLING ‘Information sources in biotechnology’

FOR WHOM

For Students, Professors, Researchers, Industry companies, Start-ups, Technology Transfer Offices, Patent Agents and other working in Biotechnology.

WORLDWIDE COOPERATION IN BIOINFORMATICS

The seminar will underline the worldwide cooperation among the bioinformatics institutes and patent offices allowing preparation of the most comprehensive databases with a worldwide coverage of scientific publications and of all the patent publications.

PRACTICAL APPROACH

The participants to the seminar will be given first-hand information about the most effective search approaches by the speakers of Institutions directly involved in the preparation of the databases. Each participant can present a ?Search question? from its own day to day life, for treatment ?live? in the workshop.

USEFUL DATABASES IN BIOTECHNOLOGY

The Seminar will present the bio-molecular databases, patent sequence databases, protein databases, chemical entities databases, enzyme databases and scientific literature databases as well as their access at the European Bioinformatics Institute and the most efficient search techniques. The sequence filing tools in public repositories and patent offices will be explained.

INTERACTIVE PRESENTATION

Discussions are foreseen in the afternoon to accommodate the specific needs and questions of the participants.

BIOTECHNOLOGY AND PATENTS

The seminar will highlight the volume and importance of the biotechnology information published in patent documents; we will explain how to effectively access this information in the free of charge patent database of the European Patent office (Espacenet).

A presentation of the patent system for non-specialists will be offered focusing on important questions of practical impact for researchers, for instance:

  • When to publish
  • When to apply for a patent
  • Problems to avoid
  • Benefits of the Patent Publication system

Il seminario è gratuito. Per partecipare occorre iscriversi tramite il seguente link: www.sling-diffusion.eu/participants/new?conference_id=28
